National Motor Freight Traffic Association – NMFTA
Based in Alexandria, Virginia the National Motor Freight Traffic Association is a non-profit standards body dedicated to the classification of freight. This freight classification is known as the National Motor Freight Classification or NMFC. The document provides commodity descriptions, transportation rules, bill of lading formats and packaging requirements for freight.
The NMFTA funds itself in part by issuing books describing in detail the NMFC used by shippers, brokers and others in the freight industry.
