Will My Boat Ever Float?

July 16, 2012 Freight Management

Being in the freight business you periodically cross paths with people have gotten into trouble with their shipping decision, and who they used to ship their freight.  We recently had a call from a couple who purchased a pontoon over the Internet in Florida and used an online bargain freight broker and budget LTL carrier to have it shipped to Minnesota.  They thought they had a good decision on the LTL carrier because it was a local company.  Turns out big online freight broker made two guys and a truck look like a reputable LTL carrier.  Unfortunately, that freight broker was not Freight Management Logistics and their new pontoon was nowhere to be found.

Complex shipping of items like boats, pontoons and vehicles takes a freight expert. The story goes that the boat was purchased in early June and their shipping contract called for the new pontoon to be floating in a Minnesota lake sometime between June 15th and June 30th, with more than ample time to get it ready for a 4th of July bash.   Well, the boat wasn’t in Minnesota by the 4th of the July, nor was it here a week later, that’s when a friend referred them to Freight Management Logistics in hopes that we might be able to help.  The bargain online freight broker was unresponsive and pointing fingers at the bargain LTL carrier and there were nothing but excuses and misinformation from both the carrier and the freight broker. The best we could do for them at this point in time was to commiserate with them because the boat was already in the LTL carriers possession and offer to help them make the right shipping decision next time.

We are happy to tell you that the pontoon finally did make it to Minnesota and it is now floating in its new home in northern Minnesota.  The couple went with an online bargain freight broker heard every possible excuse for their pontoon not making it on time – from the load actually being lost to the excuse that the trailer tires were too bald to cross state lines.

While this is a nightmare situation, it illustrates what makes Freight Management Logistics different from its online freight broker competitors.   We use our years of freight experience and industry knowledge to help you choose the right reputable LTL carrier for your cargo, shipping requirements and deadlines; we work with you throughout the shipping process, have a freight expert assigned to you and give you proactive notification to keep you informed and in the drivers seat.   Freight – its in our name – that means that shipping deadlines and freight contract terms are to be kept.
